The Orchard Practice
Order Your Repeat Prescription
It is not always necessary to see the doctor or nurse each time you need your medication. Repeat prescriptions can be ordered in the following ways:
- The NHS App
- Online form
- Through your regular pharmacy
- In person at reception
To avoid errors in medications, it is not possible for our reception staff to take requests for repeat prescriptions over the telephone.
Prescriptions are now issued electronically. You can arrange to have prescriptions sent to a preferred pharmacy by getting in touch with them directly.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked at least once a year to review these; certain medication may require more regular review. A notification message should appear on your repeat prescription slip when one is due.
Medication reviews are undertaken by the GP and can either be a face-to-face appointment or alternatively more are being undertaken over the telephone as a telephone consultation.
There are a couple of exceptions where our nursing staff will review medication if you attend one of our specialist clinics e.g. diabetes or asthma but it is always good to check if you are not sure.
As soon as you get this message on your prescription slip and to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions please book an appointment which could be a telephone consultation or a face-to-face appointment.
Emergency Medicines
In cases where you need urgent access to medication and cannot get a prescription from your regular GP, the NHS 111 service can help provide emergency prescriptions
- Request a limited emergency supply of a medicine you’ve completely run out of via NHS 111 Online
- Get advice and assistance with urgent medical concerns by calling NHS 111, if necessary, they can connect you with a clinician who can issue an emergency prescription.
What Can Be Prescribed Through Emergency Prescriptions?
- Repeat Prescriptions: If you’ve run out of essential medication and are unable to get a prescription from your GP, NHS 111 can help issue an emergency prescription for things like:
- Prescription medications for chronic conditions (e.g., blood pressure medication, asthma inhalers, diabetes medication).
- Emergency contraception (if needed urgently).
- Medication for other urgent conditions or short-term illnesses.
